Mightmuzik.com was in the house this past July 5th 2010, for the 33rd installment of the constant growing music summit Industry Influence. It also put a spotlight on the life and times of homegrown rapper Mystikal,who is fresh home off his ill fated bid. Industry Influence is a music summit hosted by legendary New Orleans radio personality Wild Wayne and Sess 4-5 who didn’t disappoint as emcees to a packed house. Rappers, producers, singers, independent label heads etc. were on hand exchanging contacts and products. DJ E.F. Cuttin was blazin on the 1’s and 2’s. This event was set up with the mission of giving artist locally as well as statewide opportunities at networking and information that they otherwise might not be privy to. The highlights of the night are divided between the artists’ performances and annual exclusive panel. Panel discussion was brought by knowledgeable and creditable sources that included Interscope Records rep Reggie Hawkins and Troy Marshall. Representatives from www.virdiko.com were also on hand to drop pertinent info.
Overall solid performances were delivered from new face artists: Young Life, Azitiz, Black Cancer, Mr. Toney, and a slew of other acts. Established artist Choppa of local and No Limit fame made a surprise appearance, as did new up and coming rapper Y.luck. New Orleans hip-hop pioneer Mystikal brought it home with his energy charged segment. The evening turned out to be exactly what was to be expected and to those in the area that missed it, you missed out on a crucial event with information that is beneficial to a budding artist career. Hope is that the efforts of people who make the event happen do not go in vain, because as the times change so does the strategies for success; sometimes aspiring artist forget the work and sacrifice that has gone into building a career. DJ Wild Wayne and those alike have set forth a cycle to provide a way for a wave of “New” New Orleans music with events like this.
