ITS BEEN GREAT VERY INTERESTING! I CANT GO ANYWHERE NOW WITHOUT SOMEONE ASKING FOR A PICTURE. ITS BEEN AN EXPERIENCE TO GO THROUGH.. THAT’S FOR SURE. YES I WENT ON THE SHOW BUT IT WAS A STRESSFUL SITUATION BEING ON CAMERA 24-7 AND WEARING A MIC ON YOUR BACK EVERYDAY IT GETS CRAZY LOL.
ITS ALSO COOL BECAUSE OTHER PEOPLE IN THE INDUSRTY RESPECT ME BECAUSE I WAS THE CLASSIEST GIRL ON THE SHOW AND I WILL BE THE ONE TO GO FURTHER THAN ANY OF THE GIRLS. I HAVE A IMAGE THAT IS WELL MARKETABLE AND PEOPLE ARE GLAD I DIDNT MAKE A FOOL OUT OF MY SELF OR DISRESPECT MYSELF JUST FOR A MAN OR A SHOW.
Q. Were you really there for LOVE?
NOOOOO WAY LOL I WAS FALLING FOR CHANCE BECUASE I WAS SUPPOSED TO IN ORDER TO GET TO THE END BUT HE TURNED ME OFF MY HIS PERSONALITY. I CANT DATE A MAN WHO IS MORE OUT OF CONTROL THAN A 5 YEAR OLD.
Q. You started out as one of CHANCE’s girls and ended up on REAL’s side a decision that ultimately lead to you not being picked….knowing that now…would you do anything different if you could do it over?
CORRECTION I DID NOT END UP ON REALS SIDE I NEVER TOOK A CHAIN FROM REAL. I WENT ON A DATE WITH HIM JUST TO SEE IF THERE WAS A CONNECTION WITH US. I FELT I MIGHT HAVE BEEN WASTING MY TIME WITH CHANCE SINCE HE WAS OBVIOUSLY FEELING RISKY AND CALI MORE SO I GAVE IT A TRY WITH REAL. I REALIZED I AM NOT GOING TO SETTLE FOR THE OTHER BROTHER JUST BECAUSE I WANED TO COME IN FIGHTING FOR WHAT I WANTED AND IF I DIDNT GET IT I WOULD HAVE RATHER JUST WENT HOME. I DONT UNDERSTAND HOW CHANCE GOT MAD AT ME WHEN HE AND HIS BROTHER WERE GOING FOR THE SAME GIRL NEW YORK AND THATS HOW THEY GOT THERE OWN SHOW. SO LIKE I SAID THEY HAD TO FIND AN EXCUSE TO ELIMINATE ME I WAS THE BEST PACKAGE IN THE HOUSE AND THEY KNEW IT. JUST BECAUSE I WASENT LOUD AND CHASING CHANCE AROUND TO GET HIS ATTENTION I GUESS TURNED HIM OFF.
Q. Were REAL and Chance the same off camera as they were on screen???
I NEVER SAW THEM OFF CAMERA LOL CAMERAS WERE ALWAYS ON
Q. What’s your most memorable moment from the show?
THE POLICE FAKE STUNT I WAS SOO MAD OMG THAT WAS VERY EMOTIONAL AND I WAS MAD I DIDNT GET THE DATE TO THE CHRISTIAN AUDGIER STORE SINCE I DID BUY CHANCE $175 SHORTS I DESERVED IT NO ONE ELSE DID
Q. Out of all the girls you were the most “laid back” and “reserved”….is there anything that the camera didn’t catch that you would like share?
NO CAMERA GOT ME FOR ME THEY MADE IT SEEM LIKE I WAS FULL OF MYSELF BUT IM NOT ..IM VERY CONFIDENT NOT STUCK UP. IM THE COOLEST LAID BACK DOWN TO EARTH CHIC YOU WILL EVER MEET
Q. Are you still in contact with any of the girls from the show?
YEA BAY BAY BAY AND KIKI AND BUBBLES AND CALI ARE MY GIRLS I HAVE NO BEEF WITH ANY OF THE OTHER GIRLS WE ALL COOL THAT SHOW WAS MONTHS AGO LOL
Q. You recently shot a pilot for your own show ” THE ROAD TO RICHES” tell us a lil about that???

1. “Rapsody” what up!!!!???!!!how’s it going ma????
PEACE, NEW ORLEANS FAMILY! I appreciate you having me, Bruce and Soul Wonder. Everything in North Carolina is peachy, and Im doing WONDERFULLY, well.
2. For anybody still “sleeping”,would you please formally introduce yourself and let em know what it is you do???
Greetings, to all you GLOW readers!! I am Rapsody, 9th Wonder’s female rap artist on Jamla Records, and 1/5th of the hip hop group, Kooley High out of North Carolina. For those of you who follow 9th and purchased Dream Merchant Vol. II, I was featured on the interludes. I know Ive had several cats add me on myspace and say they’d been trying to find out who the artist was for a while because I never said my name.
3.Take us back for a minute if you will….How does shy young girl form “North Carolina” become the “fire spitt’n” answer to the prays as for as what the games been missing???? tell us a little about you childhood???
Well, I’ll start with my childhood and work up.
I was born and raised in North Carolina. And, my extended family stretches far and wide! So, aside from my parents playing their favorite 70s and 80s jams (which equated to a ton of Michael Jackson, Luther Vandross, and Tina Turner) and my older sisters spinning their 80s and 90s jams, I also had the music montage of my cousins. Which pulled me into the music realm and I have forever been stuck! I LOVE MUSIC!! Thats a big part of my childhood, along with basketball. I hear older songs and a memory of an event pops into my head immediately -- nostalgia.
So, I can honestly say, since at least the age of five, I knew I wanted to be a music artist and be the first female to play in the NBA! (Ive always been a big dreamer, LOL!!). Michael Jackson was the first immediate influence. I wanted to be a singer. I wanted to wear the glove and do the moonwalk (which I still cant do to this day). But, I wasnt blessed with the vocal ability. LOL. So, in the late 80s, around the age of 6 or 7, I became a hip hop fanatic!
Even at a young age, I am blessed to have been able to enjoy the golden years of hip hop! The creme of the crop. The bar for hip hop was so high back then. And, it made me even more excited to see dope females like MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, Salt N’ Peppa, Lil’ Kim, Bahamedia, Foxy Brown and Lauryn Hill get down with the fellas. It gave me the hope that, hey, maybe I can do this one day.
But, being from North Carolina (below the bible belt as 9th would put it), I didnt have a lot of faith in myself that I could actually pull it off. Especially, being from a such a small country town. You are groomed to be doctors and lawyers. No one knows of anyone who has made a successful career in the arts. Its a rarity. So, I was timid in even attempting to pursue the music dream. Therefore, I kept my focus on basketball.
So, my senior year I got an offer to play basketball at Meredith. But, I had my heart set on playing at NC State for Coach Kay Yow. And, it didnt hurt that my older sister (who was attending State at the time) had me pumped about the vibrant hip hop scene on campus (i.e. concerts and the infamous, Club Plum Crazy).
I moved up to Raleigh with my sister, and she and her boyfriend would watch Def Poetry Jam during the summers. I fell in love with it, of course! Sexy ol’ Mos Def hosted, and I was captivated by the lyrics and emotion. So, I started writing spoken word in 2004. I also met my band mates of Kooley High. We started as a hip hop organization on campus. By the time we got to State, the vibrant hip hop scene, was almost non-existent. We had a country artist perform at homecoming one year (no diss to country, but Im just saying). So, our mission was to bring hip hop back to life on campus. Well, the organization was made up of a mostly rappers, producers, and djs (which was not a criteria for joining, you just had to have a love, passion or interest in hip hop).
So, the summer of 2005 the organization decided to put together a compilation. That summer I wrote and recorded my first two songs. Being around other artist and having the support gave me the courage to just have fun and try it out. I didnt feel that I was being judged on how “dope” I was. I was just welcomed by the other artist who had been doing it for years, to just got for it.
The passion and dream was stuck in me. And, it would never leave. I didnt want to look back and regret not trying. So, that fall of 2005, Tom Foolery had interned with 9th Wonder and invited him to a club meeting to talk to us, give us advice and insight on the business and our music. We played the compilation and we critiqued each song and mentored us on how to become better artist. I was so nervous. These were my first two songs and I just knew he was not going to like them. However, when it became time to showcase my song he played it over and over and over. And, told me I had a lot of potential and a dope voice. I just need to work on my flow. So, my homework was to listen to Jay-Z’s BLACK ALBUM, Tribe Called Quest’s BEATS, RHYMES, and LIFE, and CYPRESS HILL and study how they said their words, as opposed to what they said.
And, the rest is history. I studied and studied my craft and everything has been going well ever since. Im signed to an indie label and working on my first mixtape and LP with 9th. Its a dream come true and Im blessed to be given this opportunity in my life! I thank God and my teacher, 9th.
4.When did you first fall in love music???and how did that blossom into a love for “HIP HOP”???
** I explained that in the third questions, in one of those many long paragraphs ** LOL.
5.Who’s had the most influence on you musically ???
9th Wonder has had the most direct impact. He has truly changed my life. He gave me the confidence and hope that I could truly be great. That it was in me, I just need to find it, cultivate it, and help it grow. Im still learning till this day!! (his beats are ridiculous, too!! 9th beats inspire me. I love soulful beats!!!)
I feel in love with music because of Michael Jackson. He was my first musical hero / icon.
Jay-Z is my favorite hip hop artist. His flow, delivery, lyrics, and charisma are like non-other (except for Biggie of course)! Included in this list are Biggie, Lauryn Hill, MC Lyte, Nas, Bahamedia, Mos Def, Erykah Badu, Tribe Called Quest…to put it in a nut shell, the Golden Era Artist -- the creme of the crop!!!
6.What’s your take on the current state of “HIP HOP”???
Im not going to get into whats real hip hop and what isnt because no one can justify that. My only beef is there is no balance in hip hop. Like the Buckshot and KRS jam, “EVERYBODY SOUNDS LIKE A ROBOT”. And, the capitalist nature of what the music business has become, has taken the focus off of the music and put the focus on making dollars.
Prior to the last decade and beyond, the best artist were on the radio. You didnt know anybody in the street that was better than cats that were on the radio. Because, the best artist, for the most part, were the ones who were getting the deals, as explained to me by 9th as we sit and try to figure what has happened to our music. Today, its about how many followers you have. Executives dont care what your music sounds like, its about how many ring tones you can sell. How many plays you have on myspace and youtube. This is why it is so important for artist today to brand themselves and exercise good marketing campaigns to increase their fan base as much as possible.
Also, everybody sounds the same. The the scales are so far tipped and off balance its a shame. Souljah boy hit the scene and had a successful dance record, and you had a million artist follow suit. T Pain was being original when he used the auto tune, now you have a million artist following suit. The individuality and creativity has been watered down. This is why majors and crumbling and indie’s are on the rise! Independent labels give you the creativity to be yourself and take control of your art.
Therefore, Im confident we will soon see a dramatic change in climate in the industry. Its evident by the XXL freshman class cover. The robots arent popping in the streets!
7.Walk us through the moment when you first realized you would pursue your passion as a career.
There were a couple key moments.
The first being when I made my first two songs and 9th Wonder listened to them. I sat in the back of the room, nervous, almost sick on my stomach. And, then he compliment my potential and shined some light on my dream. I had confidence. And, I just knew I wasnt going to stop now. I was going to work day and night, putting music before studying many times, to make sure I at least had a shot.
Then two years went by and 9th continued to work with me and give me advice here and there. I got a manager and he asked me what I wanted to do with my career. And, I told him I wanted in the short term to eventually sign with a indie label, and how much I wanted that label to be 9ths. He called 9th and talked to him and we had a meeting. 9th told me he would be delighted to work with me. I could have cried that day. 9th, who worked with Jay-Z, Destiny’s Child, MOP, Lloyd Banks, Buckshot, Mary J Blige, and had a Grammy took interest in me! I knew then I was going to do everything to make sure I went for it.
Third, 9th put me on the interludes of the Dream Merchant 2. Wow, was I excited! The response from the radio interferences was crazy. Cats liked me. And, that feeling was indescribable. To know somebody like what your were doing. Even some cats you grew up listening to and admiring. I owe so much to 9th!!!! Thats my big brother and Ill always love him for LIFE!!!! I am where I am today because of him and the confidence he planted in me.
8.Now you’re the lead artist off “Grammy Award Wining” producer “9th Wonder’s” label “Jamla”….wooow….Congratz!!! You have got to tell us the story how all that happened???
Well, like I pointed on earlier. I had a manager, who was Vince Clark at the time. And, I expressed to him how much I wanted to sign and work with 9th. We had a meeting, and because 9th had been working with me on my development for about two years, we already had somewhat of a small relationship. So, he said he would sign me and again, I almost threw up on the floor I was so excited and happy. I was the third artist on the label, before me there was Tyler Woods and Big Remo (formerly of the A.L.L.I.E.S).
However, Im not the lead artist. lol. Skyzoo is the first artist to drop off the label. Big up to Skyzoo! The Salvation will be out September 29th, 2009! JAMLA BABY!!!!!!!
9.How would you describe your style????And in your own words….What role does “Rapsody” play in the history of “HIP HOP” as a whole????
I dont know why its so hard to describe myself as an aritst. lol. But, in a nut shell I would have to say my style is witty, fun, laced with a crazy flow, and delivered with a gritty, bratty, southern twang. Ive been compared to MC Lyte, Jean Grae, Lauryn Hill, and Da Brat. However, has honored as I am to be compared to such incredible artist. I dont think I sound like anybody.
I want my role to be someone little girls, particularly, little black girls can look up to and grown women can be proud of. A voice for my ladies in hip hop. To be a incredible spokeswoman for them. As well as, to be a leading artist in the industry who helped set the standard for good music. Someone who helped usher in the second coming of a golden era and leave a legacy like my hip hop godmothers -- Lyte, Lauryn, and Latifah.
10.What are you currently working on???Any release dates???
Currently, Im working on my first solo mixtape, entitled “Prelude to Return of the B-Girl” and my first solo album, called ‘Return of the B-Girl”.
The mixtape is set to be release this fall 2009, and the album is set be released in 2010.
11.What can our readers / your fans expect to hear on your solo project drops???
I hope they will be well received and regarded as quality projects. In the words of Phonte, “Dope beats, dope rhymes”. The mixtape will be fun and witty. The concept is to rap over a majority of female industry beats, with original material sprinkled hear and there. A project both men and WOMEN can relate to and be proud of.
12.How can our reader / your fans keep up with /purchase any and everything to do with “Rapsody”????

it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me it’s almost like I don’t even remember what life was like before her. She gives life a whole new meaning and a whole new purpose
You seem to be more “laid-back since the birth of you daughter….: I owe the baby my life. I owe this baby everything and I have a responsibility now Besides being responsible for myself, I’m now responsible for someone else. And I have to set the right examples. I have to really be someone that I would want my child to look up to.
You didn’t bring her with you today, but i’ve seen pictures of baby Harlow…She’s beautiful….I hear she’s going to be a “big sister”???(CONGRATZ!!!) aw thank you , yes true i’m pregnant ,joel and i are truly blessed
“Harlow”….That such a unique name…Would you tell our readers the inspiration behind it??? , joel really like Jean Harlow the actress, and i likes Shalom Harlow the model. Harlow’s cool because it feels like a classic name.
New Orleans native…former “Bad Boy” “CHOPPER YOUNG CITY” set down with our own “BRUCE LEE- ROY to dicuss every thing from his former label head (P.Diddy) to beef with label mates, and he answer the question that’s been keeping the street’s buzz’n….what happened between you and Cashmoney Records Lil Wayne???
CHOPPER wuz been good with cha???
Cool’n brah…just doing me!!!
It’s been a few years since the whole “Making The Band” thing….tell our readers how you ened up on that show and the Bad Boy roster….
Luck!!! lol…nah…really i would say it was meant to be,cause i don’t believe in luck…..i feel every man makes his own destiny….but to answer your question…at age 15 i was arrested and set to bootcamp…it was crazy cause its like when i was down everybody turn there back on me…that lead to me “not given a fuck bout nothing and nobody!!!” which lead to fights and all kind of negative shit….one day i said fuck it….i pick up a pen and pad an started write the way i feel…i eventually got better…i got out and said fuck it again, young as a mother fucker i hit the road to make a name for myself…i got word of this audition for a rap show in N.Y. so i went… skipp the line and ended up in front of Diddy…..the rest is history…
So…the show was a success…the album the did well…but your not currently a “Bad Bad”…what happend??? Well after “Making The Band” and the album…we had a nice lil buzz going….”me” being the hustler that i am…i wanted to capitolize off that so i started working on my own shit(solo album) did a song called “Lil Daddy”…Lil Wayne heard it (that’s when we was cool…at least thats what i thought) wanted to get on it,he did and it was my idea to put “Jody Breeze” on it….shot the video in my city with money out of my own pocket, the label aint pay for shit!!! the buzz start building hen BAM!!! Katrina hit…fucked the city and everything esle up…..i was good, but my people was “going thru it”….i ask Diddy if he could help me help them??? cause i’m the type of nigga if my people hurt’n what’s the point of being successful??? nigga left me hanging…never came thru for me…so i said fuck it!!! i want out of my contract!!! they tought i was playinmg at first…but i had to make em respect my mind….no love…no me…fuck em!!! it’s ” M.O.E!!!”
Was it the Lil Wayne feature that lead to your Cashmoney Records negotiations???
I guess….cause me and Wayne had got real cool….i meet “Baby” his was so impressed he flew me out to Miami…we was recording like crazy!!! but i guess Wayne started getting jealous cause me and “Baby” was getting to cool are some shit, cause the nigga flipped on me and started hate’n like a “bitch”!!! and that whole thing just went bad…me and “Baby” still cool…but FUCK LIL WAYNE!!! don’t get me wrong…the nigga doing his thang…but i can’t look at him and honestly say i see “New Orleans”….he on some other shit…when you look at “B. GIZZLE” that’s New Orleans!!! “Juvy” that’s New Orleans!!! “Young City” that’s New Orleans!!! that’s why i call my self that…cause i am NEW ORLEANS!!!! i’m the new “MACK” i’m the new “Soulja Slim”!!! they the reason i do this… and i’ma hold them down!!! WAYNE CAN’T DO WHAT I DO….i gotta hold my people down….i’ma get or push up daises!!!
It is my pleasure to introduce…..”the beautiful”…..”the talented”…..
“MUFFY CUPCAKEOPIA”……
Quick question before we get started…..”yummie pops”??? elborate…. Yummie Pop is my genre of music.. Becuz its enticing when you listen which makes it Yummie to digest.. and Of Course its POPular Music for everyone.. so its Yummie POp.. But The YummiePops were originally a group of girls who made up my back ground singing and danceing stage performance.. It is also a term I use to describe the union of all young women working hard to stay yummie and get POPin in what ever they may desire in life.. Goal wise.. I wanted the yummiepops to be a nation wide and international support unit of women doing and aspiring to do great things.
Okay….back to bizzness….lol… Hey ma…..How you??? Im doing Extremely Well Thank you .. How about your self?
Bruce Lee-Roy: I’m good ma..
So….both of your parent performed with eclectic musical legend “George Clinton”??? What part if any do you think that play in you becoming a musician??? My mom sang Back Up for “Uncle George” And my dad was a bass player but he didn’t play for George.. My mother and father met in the air force and they played for the soldiers.I was raised by my mother and she is a extremely creative person.. she always pushed for me to have individuality.. She let me figure out the real me at a early age.. that’s why now-a-days i don’t really have much to prove to people.. Who i am is who i wear in my shirt everyday.. She let me dress my self a lot and even pick my own eating habits.. with of course, her advice.. We studied many different religions and visited many different walks of life..I did grow up poor but this never hindered my creative growth.. she didnt want me to sing like her and she probably didn’t think i would get into music becuz i didn’t take singing lessons, piano or be forced to go to church.. so its jus different..But she says she is very proud im her daughter.. So i hope that explains a lil bit why im soo Yummie.
